Welcome to Novabella Studio. We're all friends here.

With my fifth year as a maternity, newborn, family and boudoir photographer looming large, I decided it was time to have a think about my business, my purpose and I what I want to achieve in the next five years.

I love photography. I love capturing beautiful images for clients, creating beautiful artwork that can be treasured for generations. I also love the creative elements of photography - and the technical requirements. I also actually love being a business person, an entrepreneur (not that I can spell that word without the help of spellcheck).

But this year has been rough. A lot of families are doing it hard and luxury portraits are not a priority. So, I decided to use this time to think about the next step.

Novabella was born

As of December 1, 2024, Debrin Foxcroft Photography became Novabella Studio. There are a number of reasons for this change. Let me explain.

  1. I have lived multiple lives over the past two decades. I have been an academic, a journalist, a photojournalist, a photographer and, in my spare time, a cake baker. Google can spit out all sorts of results when people are looking for my business and this can be confusing.
  2. My name is also hard to spell. Both the first and surname are unexpected for people who are not familiar with them (and for Microsoft Office which loves to change Debrin Foxcroft to Debris Foxtrot).
  3. My business has also evolved and I wanted a new brand to create separation from my old model and my new one. When I started Debrin Foxcroft Photography, I was a "shoot-and-burn" photographer - cheap and digital only. While that does suit some people (and no shade from me if this is you!), I increasingly felt like I wasn't serving clients. Photos sent as digital files are rarely printed and hung on the wall. Rarely put in places where they could be loved. I introduced print products at the end of 2023 but I have swung between offering digital packages and not. But I have settled on not. All print products will come with digitals but I won't be selling digitals on their own. The exceptions to this will be the seasonal mini sessions.
  4. Finally, I wanted a name that tells a story about my "why" - my girls. The brand name "Novabella" is a blend of their names - Nova and Isabella. I am building this in honour of them.

So, my goal heading into 2025 is to build up this brand, to focus on beautiful artwork and to capture precious moments for all my clients.
