Celebrating tattoos


On March 22, 2025 I set up a pop-in studio at the Kapiti Tattoo and Arts Festival. It was a lesson in being adaptable and being open to new experiences.


Originally, the plan was to charge a small fee to photograph people with their new and old tattoos. I built my own booth - it was a trial run - but I will definitely be working on it to use in the future.


As something wholly new to a lot of people, there weren't any takers on my original offer. And I really didn't want to spend the whole day without something to do. So, instead, I decided to photograph anyone and everyone.


And I am so very glad I did. I had the most incredible time testing out my pop-in setup and meeting a range of people. I heard al sorts of stories, had brief but fun conversations and just really enjoyed the day.


I am so proud of the images I created on the day. While I edited the images in both black and white and colour, my favourite are, by far, the black and white ones.
